26-year-old Nigerian faces US federal charges after extradition for cybercrime

Nigerian Citizen Extradited to U.S. on Sexual Extortion and Related Charges
A 26-year-old Nigerian national, Afeez Adewale, has been extradited to the United States to face federal charges related to sexual extortion and the death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
The U.S. Attorney, David Metcalf, confirmed the extradition in a statement released by the Department of Justice. Adewale faces several charges, including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He made his initial court appearance on Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lynne Sitarski in Philadelphia.
Adewale was arrested in Nigeria on August 17, 2023, as part of a coordinated operation by the FBI aimed at individuals involved in the sexual exploitation of minors in the U.S. He arrived in the United States on February 13, 2026, following a successful extradition process facilitated by the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and the FBI, which took custody of him at the airport.
“The cooperation of Nigerian authorities was crucial to this process,” the DOJ statement noted, highlighting the roles of the Attorney General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Adewale’s co-defendants, 27-year-old Imoleayo Aina, also known as Alice Dave, and 26-year-old Samuel Abiodun, were extradited to the U.S. in August 2024. Abiodun later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering and wire fraud, receiving a five-year sentence from U.S. District Judge Joel H. Slomsky in June 2025. Aina pleaded guilty to several charges, including cyberstalking and interstate threats, and was sentenced to six years by the same judge in October 2025.
