Troops neutralise five insurgents, rescue three children in Borno

Joint Task Force Operation in Borno and Yobe States Leads to Insurgent Neutralization and Child Rescues

Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, neutralized five suspected insurgents and rescued three abducted children during recent operations in Borno and Yobe states.

The actions, which took place between February 20 and 21, were detailed in a statement released Saturday by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI.

In Borno State, troops from Sector 1 engaged fighters believed to be affiliated with the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a patrol near Sabsawa village. The troops outmaneuvered the insurgents, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, while others managed to escape.

In a separate mission in Ngurosoye village, located within the Bama Local Government Area, the troops rescued three children—identified as Abba Abba, Fatima Abba, and Aisha Abba—during routine patrol efforts. Preliminary investigations suggest that the children were abducted approximately two months ago near the Gubio area before being transported to Bula-Daloye.

The rescued children have since been transferred to the Nigeria Police for further action.

Additionally, the statement noted the surrender of an 18-year-old suspect, Abubakar Abubakar, in Geidam, Yobe State. He is currently being held for questioning.

The military emphasized that troops engaged in Operation HADIN KAI continue to conduct offensive and stabilization missions in collaboration with local security forces to address insurgent activities in the North East region.
