Yobe communities devastated by fire

Fire Outbreaks Devastate Communities in Yobe State

Multiple communities in Yobe State have experienced severe fire outbreaks that destroyed market stalls, homes, and food supplies, leaving many families without shelter and livelihoods.

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) reported the incidents in a statement issued Monday. The affected areas include Bukarti in Yunusari Local Government Area (LGA), Fuchimiram and Kalgeri in Geidam LGA, and Gumsamari in Yusufari LGA.

In response to the crisis, Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed immediate support efforts for the victims, which will include both short- and mid-term relief measures.

“These are extremely difficult times for families whose primary sources of income and sustenance have been tragically disrupted,” the statement said.

As the harmattan season approaches, YOSEMA urged residents to prioritize fire prevention measures in markets, homes, and public spaces to prevent additional incidents. The agency noted that comprehensive assessments are currently underway to determine the appropriate assistance needed for those affected.
