El-Rufai suffered overnight nosebleed in EFCC custody – Aide

Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai Suffers Nosebleed in EFCC Custody
Muyiwa Adekeye, spokesperson for former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, reported that El-Rufai experienced a nosebleed while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement issued late Monday, Adekeye claimed that the Commission prevented El-Rufai’s wife from personally delivering food to him on February 17. El-Rufai voluntarily reported to the EFCC headquarters on February 16 in response to an invitation from the agency.
Following his release from the EFCC, El-Rufai was taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on February 18. Both agencies are investigating allegations of financial misconduct involving El-Rufai during his governorship from 2015 to 2023.
Last year, the Kaduna State House of Assembly accused El-Rufai of misappropriating 423 billion naira in public funds and engaging in money laundering, prompting calls for an investigation by anti-corruption agencies.
Adekeye asserted that the former governor’s legal team has not received a remand order allowing for his detention beyond 48 hours without formal charges. He noted that access to El-Rufai has been problematic for both his lawyers and family members.
“The Commission requested that one of his wives deliver his meal through agency personnel instead of directly,” the statement read. “His lawyers reported that he suffered a nosebleed overnight.”
On Wednesday, the Federal Capital Territory High Court is set to hear a suit filed by El-Rufai, seeking to enforce his fundamental rights against the Federal Government, the ICPC, the EFCC, and the Department of State Services (DSS). The former governor is expected to be arraigned this week on allegations of intercepting a telephone conversation involving Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
Additionally, El-Rufai has initiated legal proceedings against the ICPC, alleging that the agency unlawfully raided his residence in Abuja.
