Five Die After Consuming Poisoned Meat in Taraba State
The Taraba State Police Command confirmed on Wednesday that five individuals have died after allegedly consuming meat that may have been laced with poison in Takum Local Government Area.
The incident, which took place on Tuesday, also resulted in eight other individuals being hospitalized and receiving medical treatment, according to official reports.
Victor Mshelizah, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, stated that preliminary investigations indicate the victims ingested meat believed to be contaminated with a toxic substance commonly used for rodent control.
Authorities dispatched officers to the scene promptly after the report was received. Those affected were transported to nearby medical facilities, while the deceased were sent for necessary procedures.
The police announced that a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials are urging the public to report any suspicious food items or sudden illnesses to local law enforcement or relevant authorities to prevent further tragedies. The police assured residents that efforts are being made to uncover the truth and emphasized that those responsible will be held accountable.
