Egbetokun created many enemies for Tinubu – Deji Adeyanju

Activist Lawyer Criticizes Former Police Chief Egbetokun After Removal

Deji Adeyanju, an activist lawyer, has alleged that former Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun fostered animosity toward President Bola Tinubu during his tenure. Speaking to reporters regarding Egbetokun’s recent ousting, Adeyanju suggested that the fallout is a form of retribution.

He cautioned public officials to exercise caution in their dealings with Nigerian citizens, emphasizing the impermanence of political power. “Egbetokun inherited numerous enemies for his principal, President Bola Tinubu. As a public office holder, you must understand that you will not be in power forever,” Adeyanju stated.

He further claimed that several former officials, including former Minister Abubakar Malami and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, will soon face similar consequences. “Karma has come for Malami, El-Rufai, and Egbetokun. Many others will soon leave government under similar circumstances,” he said.

Adeyanju called for a more respectful approach to governance, criticizing Egbetokun for allegedly misusing his position to oppress citizens.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police, succeeding Egbetokun. Before his dismissal, Egbetokun encountered considerable backlash from various segments of the public, particularly activists who accused him of unlawfully occupying his office.
