Attack on ex-Oyo Deputy Gov: APC asks police, DSS to arrest perpetrators

Oyo State APC Calls for Investigation into Attack on PDP Leaders

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged security agencies to investigate an attack that occurred Saturday at the residence of former Deputy Governor Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, as well as other prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The appeal was made in a statement issued by Wasiu Olawale Sadare, the APC Publicity Secretary. Reports indicate that at least 25 PDP members sustained injuries during local government congresses affiliated with the faction led by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

Sources reported damages to multiple homes and vehicles as political violence erupted in various locations across the state. Gbolarumi’s residence, located in the Bodija area of Ibadan, was among the sites attacked by unidentified assailants.

Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, chairman of the Wike faction, has confirmed the incident, stating that numerous individuals were injured and properties sustaining damages worth millions of naira.

In response, the APC has called on law enforcement agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services, to conduct a thorough investigation. Sadare emphasized the need to apprehend those responsible for the attack and their backers.

“While some sponsored thugs attempted to disrupt the Local Government Area Congress, an organized group of hoodlums was also dispatched to Gbolarumi’s home,” the statement said. “The attackers caused significant damage and inflicted injuries on individuals believed to support the Wike faction. We implore security agencies to investigate this incident to identify the perpetrators and their sponsors, as we cannot afford a return to overt political violence in Oyo State.”

The situation remains under scrutiny as investigations begin.
