Fear God, ensure credible 2027 elections – Lutheran Bishop, Rev Malau urges INEC

Bishop Calls for Credible Elections in Nigeria

The Rt. Rev. Nelson Malau, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible and transparent election process for the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the need for sincerity and integrity throughout the electoral proceedings.

Bishop Malau made these remarks during a press conference at the conclusion of the church’s Annual Convention, held at its permanent site in Numan, Adamawa State. “INEC must demonstrate sincerity and uphold the fear of God in the conduct of the 2027 elections, allowing Nigerians to elect their preferred candidates freely,” he stated.

He called upon stakeholders nationwide to fulfill their responsibilities and refrain from actions that could jeopardize the upcoming elections. Additionally, he urged all Nigerians, regardless of their faith, to pray for peaceful, credible, and acceptable elections.

Addressing security concerns, the bishop condemned recent attacks in the Hong and Madagali Local Government Areas and a security breach in the Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He called for increased efforts from security agencies to protect lives and property while commending the Adamawa State Government for its current initiatives to address these issues.

Bishop Malau also voiced support for the establishment of state police, describing recent discussions initiated by the Federal Government on this matter as timely. He advocated for significant youth employment opportunities and enhanced electricity supply across Nigeria.

During the convention, the guest speaker, Very Rev. Akoko Luke from the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ in Kaduna State, encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith. He highlighted the importance of discipline, prayer, and strong Christian marriages.

The theme of the convention, “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory,” was derived from Colossians 1:27. The event, which began on March 4, concluded on March 8, drawing participation from various LCCN branches across Nigeria.
