Social Democratic Party Ratifies New Leadership Amid Disciplinary Measures
By Henry Umoru, ABUJA
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially ratified the appointment of Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as the party’s new National Chairman.
The decision came during a recent NEC meeting held at Newton Hotel and Resort in Abuja, where Hon. Gaza Jonathan Gbefwi, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Karu/Keffi/Okona Federal Constituency, moved the motion for Gombe’s appointment.
In addition to Gombe’s selection, the NEC also approved the appointment of Senator Ugochukwu Uba as the National Deputy Chairman for the southern region. Mrs. Rosemary Effiong was also confirmed as the National Labour and Civil Society Secretary.
At the same meeting, the party ratified disciplinary measures that include the suspension of former chairman Shehu Gabam and several others. These actions are a response to allegations of severe financial misconduct, including embezzlement and misappropriation of party funds, estimated to exceed 1 billion naira.
This session’s resolutions follow a previous suspension issued on June 24 of last year against Gabam, who faced similar allegations, along with two other National Working Committee members: National Auditor Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader Uchechukwu Chukwuma.
Further details are expected to be released shortly.
