Maiduguri Mosque Refutes Bomb Claims on Social Media

MAIDUGURI, Borno State — The management of the Malam Bako Mosque has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the presence of a bomb planted within the mosque.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the mosque’s management asserted that the claims are unfounded and that no such incident occurred either at the mosque or in the surrounding area. The mosque, located in the Layin Hadiza neighborhood, emphasized that the environment remains calm and safe for worshippers and residents.

The statement, titled “Official Statement from the Management of Malam Bako Mosque, Layin Hadiza,” categorically stated that the rumors about a bomb being planted are entirely false. “The management of Malam Bako Mosque wishes to inform the public that the message currently spreading on social media, claiming that some people came to plant a bomb in the mosque, is completely false,” the statement read.

Additionally, the management urged the public to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could incite fear or panic within the community. “We urge members of the public to disregard the message and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary fear and panic in the community,” the management added.

Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, also characterized the reports as false and advised residents to remain vigilant while avoiding the spread of misinformation.
