Panic in Abuja as residents lament prolonged water scarcity

Residents in Federal Capital Territory Voice Concerns Over Water Scarcity
Residents across several communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja are increasingly alarmed by a significant water scarcity affecting the city. Areas including Ushafa, Bwari, and portions of Dutse have reportedly experienced little to no water supply for weeks, prompting frustration among locals seeking access to clean water.
Interviews conducted by DAILY POST reveal that many residents have turned to alternative, often unsafe, sources to meet their daily water needs. Godswill, a Dutse resident, reported that his neighborhood has been without water for nearly a week. “For almost a week, I have not seen water. Since last Thursday, nothing has come out of the tap,” he said, adding that he has been fetching water from a nearby river.
Another resident, Dike, voiced dissatisfaction regarding the delay in restoring water supply, despite prior assurances that the problem would be resolved. “I heard they were working on it and that by Monday we would see water. It’s Tuesday now, and still nothing,” he noted.
Residents have speculated that the issue may be linked to the Usman Dam, a primary water source for many areas in Abuja. Victoria Odumu shared her family’s disappointment after connecting their home to the Usman Dam supply, believing it would prevent shortages. “I encouraged my parents to connect to the Usuman Dam, thinking we would not experience water scarcity, not knowing this one would be the worst,” she remarked.
A resident visiting from Apo to Ushafa was taken aback by the severity of the situation. “I just came from Apo to visit my parents in Ushafa, only to hear that they have not had water for nearly two weeks. Na wa o,” he said.
As of this report, the exact cause of the ongoing water shortage remains unclear. Residents continue to call on local authorities for immediate action to resolve the situation.
