Two Teenagers Drown in Kano While Fleeing Suspected Phone Snatchers
KANO, Nigeria — Two 18-year-old males, Sadiq Isyaku and Auwal Isyaku, drowned Friday after falling into an open water body while attempting to evade suspected phone snatchers in the Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Saminu Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, reported that the incident occurred at approximately 4:04 p.m. near Ring Road, Kureken Sani. An emergency call was made to the agency’s control room by a witness, identified as Muhammed Abba, who alerted authorities to the situation.
A rescue team was dispatched to the scene and found the two youths submerged in the water. They were recovered in an unconscious state and subsequently pronounced dead. Their bodies were later returned to their father, Ibrahim Shehu, a resident of Unguwa Uku Quarters.
Abdullahi noted that initial investigations suggest the victims fell into the pond while trying to escape from assailants. The inquiry continues as officials seek more details surrounding the incident.
