Keyamo orders immediate change to Airport gate hybrid payment system

Minister Announces Hybrid Payment System for Airport Access Gates

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has approved the implementation of a hybrid payment system for motorists accessing airport gates nationwide.

This development was confirmed in a statement from Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood. The directive follows a meeting between Keyamo and officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as well as senior personnel from the ministry.

Keyamo noted that the decision comes after the suspension of the fully cashless “Access Gate Payment System.” That suspension was ordered by President Bola Tinubu in response to complaints regarding traffic congestion at airport entry points.

“The ministry has resolved to engage concessionaires to introduce a fully automated or electronic system at all access gates at our airports in order to eventually eliminate cash payments,” Keyamo stated.

In the interim, a hybrid payment system allowing both cash and card transactions will be reinstated at all airport access gates, effective Friday. Motorists who possess FAAN Go Cashless Cards are encouraged to continue using them, while other electronic payment options, including POS terminals and approved digital channels, will also remain in service.

Keyamo urged the public and motorists to obtain the FAAN Go Cashless Card, emphasizing the authority’s commitment to strengthen and optimize the cashless payment system.

This decision temporarily restores the previous access gate payment arrangements while efforts continue to implement a fully automated electronic system at airport entry points throughout the country.
