Kaduna State Governor Unveils Agricultural Initiatives
KADUNA, Nigeria — Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at transforming the agricultural sector and enhancing the livestock value chain in northern Nigeria. Speaking at an event marked by the distribution of livestock resources to local farmers, Sani emphasized the state’s goal of becoming a center for agricultural innovation and productivity.
Represented by Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarebe, Sani announced the distribution of essential tools and resources to 5,000 farmer cooperatives throughout the state. The initiative included 500 solar-powered freezers, 300 feed millers, 3,000 bags of poultry feed, and 200,000 day-old chicks, all affecting the state’s 23 Local Government Areas.
“The objective is to build a Kaduna State that can sustain itself, support the nation, and engage in global exports with the backing of its citizens,” Sani said. He clarified that each cooperative comprises ten members, and the resources provided under this intervention are intended to improve productivity, reduce losses, and create income opportunities, particularly for women and youth involved in the livestock value chain.
The governor also highlighted ongoing investments in livestock development, including renovations of abattoirs, construction of veterinary clinics, and deployment of mobile veterinary teams for timely animal healthcare. Vaccination campaigns have reportedly protected over 850,000 cattle, 250,000 sheep and goats, 250,000 poultry, and 5,000 dogs from transboundary diseases.
Additionally, Sani’s administration has distributed 100 residue crushers and 50 fodder choppers to assist cooperatives and pastoralist groups in converting crop residues into livestock feed, thereby enhancing feed availability in the region.
