KAROTA demands solutions to heavy congestion on Zaria Road

Kano Road Traffic Agency Urges Contractor to Alleviate Zaria Road Congestion

The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has instructed the contractor overseeing the road construction on Zaria Road to take immediate measures to alleviate heavy traffic in the area. The directive comes in response to ongoing gridlock affecting motorists, particularly around Tamburawa and Kwanar Fari on the outskirts of Kano.

Faisal Mahmud Kabir, the Managing Director of KAROTA, communicated the urgency of the situation through Deputy Managing Director Alhaji Auwal Lawan Shu’aibu Aranposu during a meeting with construction company representative Venancius Okwuase at the agency’s headquarters.

In a statement released on Friday by Public Relations Officer Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, Aranposu expressed concerns about extended travel times for motorists and other road users due to the construction delays.

“We are worried about the situation on Zaria Road,” he stated. “Motorists and other road users are experiencing serious delays because of the traffic hold-up caused by the ongoing construction work.”

Aranposu emphasized the need for alternative routes to improve traffic flow. “The contractor should immediately find practical ways to ease the problem by opening alternative routes so that traffic can flow smoothly,” he added. He reaffirmed KAROTA’s commitment to improving traffic management across the Kano metropolitan area and surrounding regions.

In response, Okwuase noted that measures have already been implemented to address the traffic situation. He mentioned that U-turn points at Kwanar Fari, Immigration Office Junction, and the Civil Defence Office have been reopened to facilitate better movement along the road.

He further indicated that another important route at Kwanar Tamburawa will also be opened once the current construction on the stone base and asphalt laying is completed.

Zaria Road, which connects Kano metropolis to communities including Tamburawa, Karfi, and Kwanar Dawaki, has recently experienced significant traffic delays due to the construction project. Motorists often report spending between two and three hours navigating the congestion before reaching their destinations.
