Kano merges education ministries to drive reforms

KANO, Nigeria — Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has announced the merger of the Ministry of Higher Education with the Ministry of Education in a bid to enhance coordination and expedite reforms within the state’s education system.
According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the newly formed ministry will feature a Directorate of Higher Education responsible for overseeing universities and other tertiary institutions. The directorate will be managed by a Permanent Secretary, who will be supported by additional staff to facilitate effective administration in higher education.
“All agencies previously under the Higher Education Ministry, including the Scholarship Board, will now operate under the Ministry of Education,” the statement clarified.
Governor Yusuf indicated that this reorganization is intended to reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and enhance management across all levels of education in Kano. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to reforms aimed at revitalizing the education sector to create a brighter future for the youth.
The governor has tasked the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service with ensuring a seamless and prompt transition to the new structure.
