Gun Duel in Sokoto State Leaves Three Bandits and Two Vigilantes Dead
A violent confrontation in Bargaja village, located in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulted in the deaths of three bandits and two vigilantes early Sunday morning.
According to sources, the armed assailants infiltrated the village around 1:30 a.m., utilizing an outskirt route. Some attackers concealed themselves in trees near the village cemetery, while others approached a house on the outskirts, confronting vigilantes stationed to protect the area.
The source reported that one vigilante was killed during the initial encounter, prompting his comrades to return fire. This exchange resulted in the deaths of three bandits.
“The attackers later pursued another vigilante who was hiding in a house, ultimately killing him,” the source said. The fallen vigilantes were identified as Umar Ibrahim and Abubakar Abdullahi.
Following the attack, it was reported that the bandits used a donkey to transport the deceased and abandoned their motorcycles further away to elude detection.
The incident instilled fear among residents, leading some to attempt to flee. However, community leaders, including the village head and security commander, intervened to restore calm.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahmad Rufai, the command spokesman, confirmed awareness of the attack and the reported casualties.
