Turkey: We need no explanations – Engin rates Onuachu, Osimhen’s performances

Turkish Super Lig Highlights Strong Performance by Nigerian Strikers

Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin has praised the scoring prowess of Nigerian internationals Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu in the ongoing 2025–2026 Turkish Super Lig season.

In a recent discussion on the Asist Analiz YouTube channel, Engin commended the two forwards, who play for Galatasaray and Trabzonspor respectively, for their significant impact in the league. Together, Osimhen and Onuachu have tallied 42 goals in all competitions this season, with Osimhen contributing 19 goals, just four shy of Onuachu’s total.

Osimhen recently extended his remarkable streak to nine consecutive matches with either a goal or an assist, helping Galatasaray secure a win against Başakşehir FK. Meanwhile, Onuachu is enjoying a ten-game scoring streak across all competitions, highlighting his crucial role for Trabzonspor.

With eight matches remaining in the season, Galatasaray is currently at the top of the league standings with 64 points, seven points ahead of third-placed Trabzonspor.

Engin described Osimhen as a championship-winning player, noting that Onuachu’s goals are essential for Trabzonspor’s ambitions of securing a Champions League position. “It is clear that a striker is what makes Galatasaray champions,” Engin stated. He further emphasized Osimhen’s influence, declaring, “Osimhen is the one who drives Galatasaray toward the championship.”

Engin also highlighted Onuachu’s impactful performance, stating, “Had he only netted 15 goals, the team might have earned 6-8 fewer points by now.” Osimhen earned the Super Lig’s top scorer title last season, joining an elite group of only four African players to achieve this distinction.
