LaLiga table: Real Madrid six points behind Barcelona after defeat to Atletico

Real Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, leaving them six points behind LaLiga leaders Barcelona.

Entering the match at Wanda Metropolitano, Real Madrid sought to maintain their position in the title race after Barcelona’s victory over Sevilla the previous day.

However, the dynamics of the game shifted dramatically when Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen received a straight red card. Following the dismissal, Atletico was awarded a penalty, from which Alejandro Grimaldo converted to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Atletico extended their advantage in the 59th minute through Jonathan David. Although Anthony Rudiger managed to score a header late in the match, it served only as a consolation for Real Madrid.

In the wake of the defeat, Real Madrid now holds third place in the standings with 15 points, trailing Atletico by one point after seven matchdays.
