Nigerian Army Foils Terrorist Activities in Katsina State

KATSINA, Nigeria — Troops from the Nigerian Army have successfully disrupted terrorist operations and seized an AK-47 rifle during separate missions in Katsina State.

The information was detailed in a post on social media platform X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Monday.

Operations took place in the Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, where troops engaged suspects at different locations.

In Kankara, personnel from the 17 Brigade, operating from Forward Operating Base Mabai, encountered suspected terrorists during a routine patrol along the Kankara-Mabai Road at approximately 7:45 a.m. on March 15. The confrontation occurred near the Ruwan Lafia crossing point, leading to a gun battle that forced the suspects to retreat. The fleeing individuals left behind a motorcycle, which was later recovered by the troops.

In a separate operation in the Malumfashi Local Government Area, troops acted on intelligence regarding terrorist activities in Ruwan Sanyi Village at around 11:10 p.m. on March 14. Upon arrival, the soldiers engaged the terrorists, who fled the scene with apparent gunshot wounds, indicated by bloodstains found in the vicinity. A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, along with 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Security sources have indicated that the army is maintaining a presence in the affected areas to deter further attacks and restrict the movement of terrorist groups.
