Abductions in Oyo community have crumbled families – Makinde concerned over violence

Governor Makinde Expresses Concern Over School Abductions in Oyo State
Ibadan, Oyo State — Governor Seyi Makinde on Saturday condemned the abduction of students in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that he said has left many families in distress.
Speaking at the launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the State Police Command, Makinde highlighted the growing insecurity in the region. The event took place in Ibadan and was led by Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga.
Reports indicate that an unknown number of students were taken from schools in the community on Friday. Additionally, a vice principal was among those kidnapped, while a teacher and a motorcyclist were killed during the incident.
“This event serves as a stark reminder that security is not solely the responsibility of the government,” Makinde stated. He emphasized that ongoing violence and instability hinder social and economic development.
The governor urged residents to actively participate in keeping their communities safe by reporting any suspicious activities. “We must be vigilant and communicate promptly about unusual movements,” he advised.
Makinde also expressed hope for lasting peace and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria at large. “The establishment of this unit is a timely response to the challenges we face,” he added.
In addressing the audience, he asserted, “We must acknowledge that security cannot be taken for granted. It is a collective responsibility.”
