Young Man Dies in Road Accident During Wedding Celebration in Yobe State

POTISKUM, Yobe State — Abubakar Haruna, a young man, was killed in a road accident on Friday while participating in a bride conveyance celebration.

The incident has raised concerns about reckless behavior among youths during social events in the area. Reports indicate that a group of young men escorting the bride operated motorcycles in a dangerous manner through a busy section of town.

An eyewitness, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the riders as speeding and performing risky maneuvers, with little regard for pedestrians or other road users.

Muhammad Haruna, the victim’s brother, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the accident occurred as the convoy approached a crowded area. He explained that Abubakar was standing by the roadside when one of the motorcycles struck him on the head, causing him to lose his balance and fall into a nearby drainage channel.

Despite attempts to assist him, Muhammad reported that Abubakar succumbed to his injuries before any help could arrive.

“This loss is heartbreaking, sudden, and entirely preventable,” Muhammad Haruna said. He added that the incident has deeply affected their family and insisted it should not have happened.

He expressed concern over the prevalence of reckless motorcycle riding during bride conveyance celebrations in the community. Muhammad noted that such dangerous displays have become commonplace, posing risks to innocent bystanders.

He urged authorities in Yobe State to implement stricter safety regulations and enforce existing traffic laws. “If action is not taken, more innocent lives may be lost due to carelessness and indiscipline,” he warned.
