Actress Jemima Osunde raises alarm over high rate of food adulteration in Nigeria

Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has raised concerns about the rising incidents of food adulteration in Nigeria, emphasizing the difficulty for consumers to completely avoid unsafe food products.
In a recent social media post, Osunde expressed her dismay over food safety issues in the country, noting that many widely consumed items may be tampered with or contaminated before they reach consumers. “How is someone supposed to 100% avoid consuming these things?” she asked, underscoring the challenges faced by Nigerians in ensuring the safety of their food.
Osunde has personal experience with food safety issues; she previously reported suffering significant health complications after allegedly consuming contaminated food while working on a film set in Ibadan. She disclosed that she contracted Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that can cause stomach infections, and later developed Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), a condition that has affected her health for years.
Her comments have reignited calls for stricter food safety regulations and enhanced monitoring of food production and distribution in Nigeria.
