AFCON 2027Q: Full house as Maduka Okoye finally arrives Super Eagles’ camp
UYO, Nigeria (AP) — Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has arrived at the Super Eagles’ training base in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The 25-year-old player landed in Uyo on Friday morning, according to Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe. His arrival allows head coach Éric Chelle to have all 24 invited players available for selection.
Okoye’s late arrival had raised questions regarding his participation in the qualifiers. However, Chelle defended the goalkeeper in a media interaction on Thursday, stating that he had granted Okoye permission to report to camp later than his teammates.
Despite joining the squad, Okoye is expected to miss the opening match against Madagascar, scheduled for Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
