Akwa Ibom: Police apprehend suspects for alleged looting in accident scene

Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Suspected Vandals Following Truck Accident
UYO, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested several individuals suspected of looting and vandalizing an accidented truck along the Calabar–Itu Highway.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, reported the arrests in a statement issued on Monday. According to John, police received intelligence indicating that criminal actors were stealing items from a truck that had crashed into a valley at Afaha.
Authorities dispatched operatives to the scene, leading to the apprehension of a 19-year-old suspect, Adamu Hamza, a native of Maiduguri, who was found in possession of four tires believed to be stolen from the truck.
Further investigation resulted in the capture of Anthony James, a tricycle operator, who is alleged to have transported the stolen items from the site of the incident.
The suspects are currently in police custody, and efforts are underway to locate other accomplices who fled the scene.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in vandalism and theft, urging them to refrain from exploiting accident scenarios. He emphasized that the police command will enhance surveillance and implement intelligence-driven strategies to protect lives and property throughout the state.
