Allow NNPCL to fix Nigeria’s refineries, Mohammed tells lawmaker Ugochinyere
Public Affairs Analyst Calls for Support of Refinery Rehabilitation Efforts
A public affairs analyst, Mustapha Mohammed, has addressed the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Ikenga Ugochinyere, urging him to permit the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to proceed with repairs of the Port Harcourt and other state-owned refineries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Mohammed emphasized the importance of allowing the NNPCL to fulfill its role in the rehabilitation process. Ugochinyere had previously indicated plans to utilize parliamentary powers to seek information from NNPCL’s Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, regarding the progress of the refinery repairs.
Mohammed criticized what he termed the politicization of the rehabilitation efforts. He asserted that the NNPCL is following a deliberate policy set by the federal government to restore the refineries and cautioned against any claims suggesting legislative impropriety.
“The NNPCL is executing a Federal Government policy to revive the refineries, and there has been no breach of legislation by the National Assembly or any of its committees,” he stated.
He further urged Ugochinyere and his supporters to refrain from creating unnecessary controversies that could hinder the ongoing rehabilitation process.
Mohammed suggested that accusations against the NNPCL regarding lack of transparency in the refinery rehabilitation are merely tactics designed to mislead the public about the government’s efforts.
He concluded by stating that the success of the government’s refinery rehabilitation program should be assessed based on its progress and results, rather than through political discourse.
