By Ugochukwu Alaribe, UMUAHIA

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed its recent decision to zone the governorship position to the Abia Central senatorial zone for the 2027 general election.

On Monday, the state working committee had announced the zoning of the governorship seat to Abia Central. However, the announcement sparked criticism from several aspirants, including Chief Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu.

In light of the backlash, Chief Uche Aguoru, the state publicity secretary for the APC, issued a statement indicating that the party’s national leadership has rescinded the zoning decision.

“The National Leadership of the party has reviewed concerns raised by stakeholders and leaders in Abia State,” Aguoru said. “Therefore, all zoning arrangements issued by the State Working Committee are to be cancelled, and the party will maintain the status quo.”

Aguoru further noted that all aspirants interested in positions within the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and the governorship are now free to approach the party and purchase their nomination forms ahead of the upcoming deadline.
