APC chairman shot dead in Kogi

Unidentified gunmen have shot and killed Ishaq Yunusa, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to a statement from Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, the police have launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred Thursday along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.
The attack took place around 5:00 p.m. near Ojuwo Olijo, where armed assailants emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire on passing motorists. The police later discovered an abandoned blue Toyota Corolla along the highway, inside which Yunusa was found deceased.
Authorities noted that another individual who was in the vehicle has been taken by the gunmen into the surrounding forest.
The police have since deployed security operatives to search the area in hopes of rescuing the abducted victim and apprehending the assailants. Yunusa’s body has been transported to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi has ordered increased security operations in the affected area and emphasized the urgency of bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
Residents and motorists in the vicinity have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
