Overnight missile and drone attacks by Russian forces resulted in the deaths of at least four people and injured 19 others across Ukraine, while a Ukrainian missile strike in western Russia’s Belgorod region reportedly killed six and wounded four, including a teenager.

The Ukrainian attack on the village of Koloskovo, located approximately 10 miles from the Ukrainian border, damaged a structure and a vehicle, according to acting Belgorod Governor Alexander Shuvaev. The incident occurred in the Valuysky district, where Shuvaev communicated updates via the state-backed MAX platform.

In the southeastern Zaporizhia region, two individuals were killed and four sustained injuries during a Russian attack. Concurrently, Sumy in northeastern Ukraine faced shelling that resulted in two fatalities and one injury, as confirmed by emergency services.

Further violence unfolded in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where a Russian strike injured at least five people. In Izyum, located in the Kharkiv region, two guided-bomb attacks injured four. Southern Ukraine’s Kherson region reported five injuries from separate attacks.

An assault targeting port infrastructure in the Odesa region was aimed at the Izmail district, where a Togo-flagged civilian vessel was damaged. Ukrainian authorities noted that the fires ignited by the strike have since been extinguished. Izmail, situated close to the Romanian border, hosts Ukraine’s largest port on the Danube River.

These attacks followed a day of intensified violence between the two countries, which included missile strikes deep into each other’s territories, resulting in 19 casualties. As front-line fighting stagnates and U.S.-backed peace talks remain stagnant, both Russia and Ukraine have escalated missile attacks, leading to a significant rise in civilian deaths—the highest since the war’s early months in 2022.

Since the commencement of its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has conducted near-daily missile and drone assaults across Ukraine. Recent efforts have focused on launching hard-to-intercept ballistic missiles, taking advantage of Ukrainian air defense shortages exacerbated by global supply issues, particularly following the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.

In response, Ukraine has increasingly targeted warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, alleging the company supplies components for Russian drones and supports military operations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that such attacks, including those on oil refineries, aim to weaken Russia’s war economy.

According to a United Nations report, July witnessed the highest civilian death toll since May 2022, with 437 civilians killed in Ukraine. Russian authorities claimed that 79 civilians lost their lives from Ukrainian attacks during the same month, an increase from the previous figures.
