Ballon d’Or 2026: Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, Micah Richards pick player to win award
Alan Shearer, the former Newcastle United striker, has endorsed Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane as the frontrunner for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Shearer highlighted Kane’s impressive goal-scoring abilities, asserting that he should be awarded the prestigious honor over Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
During an appearance on “The Rest Is Football” podcast, Shearer stated, “It should be Harry all day. His numbers are insane.”
Echoing Shearer’s sentiments, former Barcelona player Gary Lineker expressed his support for Kane, remarking, “Harry Kane’s had an incredible year. I would love to see Harry get it.”
Adding to the discussions, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards acknowledged Kane’s consistent performance, saying, “Yamal had great moments, but he was not on fire throughout the [World Cup] tournament. But for Harry Kane, like you said, because he is an Englishman. Yeah, I would go with Harry Kane this year.”
