Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘He’s the best player’ – Martin picks winner
Barcelona forward Gerard Martin has endorsed teammate Lamine Yamal as the candidate deserving of this year’s Ballon d’Or.
In a recent interview with TV3, Martin asserted that the 19-year-old winger is currently the world’s top player. “Many factors are taken into consideration, but the Ballon d’Or should go to the best player, and the best is Lamine Yamal,” he stated.
Martin also mentioned fellow player Pau Cubarsi, suggesting he should be recognized for his performance this season, stating, “He should also be there, if not on the podium then very high up, because he has had a great season.”
Yamal is one of 30 players shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded next month. He faces significant competition from top players including Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.
