Bandits release pregnant woman, nursing mother, children in Kaduna after 50 days

Kidnapped Victims Freed in Kaduna State After 50 Days in Captivity

KADUNA—A pregnant woman, a nursing mother, another woman, and her four children have been released after approximately 50 days in captivity. Their release occurred in Kaduna State amid ongoing concerns about insecurity in the region.

The abduction took place shortly before the end of Ramadan, when armed bandits invaded the Sabon Gyero community, resulting in one death and the kidnapping of seven individuals. Local residents report that surrounding communities, including Dokan Mai-Jama’a, Kyauta, and Dan Hono II within Millennium City in Chikun Local Government Area, have faced multiple similar attacks this year.

Sources confirm that the victims were freed on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and returned to their community, where residents celebrated their homecoming. According to reports, negotiations involving ransom payments and the provision of motorcycles were conducted to secure their release.

Notably, one of the pregnant women had been freed earlier, approximately three weeks before the return of the remaining captives.

In a separate incident, the same attackers allegedly targeted a phone charging station in the area, resulting in the death of a young man identified as Abdullahi Lawal, known locally as “Kurma.”

Efforts to reach ASP Mansir Hassan, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, for comment on these incidents were unsuccessful.
