Adamawa court jails three Shila boys 10 years each for extortion
Yola Court Sentences Three Youths for Armed Robbery
YOLA, Adamawa State — A court in Yola has sentenced three young men, associated with a gang known as the Shila boys, to ten years in prison each for their involvement in armed robbery.
The individuals, identified as Sanusi Umar, 19; Mohammed Magaji, 17; and Yakubu Ibrahim, 20, all from Zango Ward in the Yola North Local Government Area, were found guilty following an incident in which they armed themselves with cutlasses and stole a mobile phone from a local resident.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Chief Magistrate Dorcas Mavah during proceedings at Chief Magistrate Court II. Each defendant received three years of imprisonment for conspiracy, alongside seven years for extortion, with both sentences to be served consecutively and without the option of a fine.
The charges stemmed from an incident on September 9, 2026, when the three youths attacked Bello Yusuf of Anguwan Tana in Yola North LGA, forcibly taking a Smart P-30 mobile phone valued at N42,000. Their arrest was made by operatives from the Doubeli Police Station in Jimeta after a complaint was filed by the victim.
During the arraignment, police prosecutor Inspector Kabiru Abubakar outlined that the defendants confessed to the charges after the contents of the First Information Report were explained to them. Subsequently, he requested a summary trial due to the admissions of guilt made by the trio.
This conviction marks a continued effort by authorities in Adamawa State to address youth involvement in criminal activities and to dismantle such gangs, which have been a growing concern in the region.
