AGWABI, Benue State — A mortician identified as Amaobi has been arrested by the Benue State Police Command following an incident that raised concerns in the community. The mortuary attendant was apprehended on Friday morning after he was seen using a deceased person’s leg as a walking stick.
Witnesses reported that Amaobi was spotted at a local retail shop, where he was attempting to purchase items while carrying the leg. His actions drew the attention of community members, leading to his detention by local youths until police arrived.
In a statement to authorities, Amaobi explained that his actions were intended as a demonstration to attract public attention. He expressed a desire to rally support for the evacuation of over 18 corpses, allegedly killed last year by security operatives and stored in his mortuary.
The police are currently investigating the incident and the circumstances surrounding the bodies in question.
