Benue: Ochigbo laments Otukpo killings, calls for swift arrest of perpetrators

NDP Gubernatorial Candidate Decries Recent Killings in Otukpo

BENUE STATE—Mathew Ochigbo, the National Democratic Party (NDP) gubernatorial candidate, has condemned the recent violent attacks in Otukpo Local Government Area. Describing the killings as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” Ochigbo expressed his condolences to the victims and their families.

In a statement released to the public, Ochigbo emphasized that the ongoing loss of innocent lives contradicts the peaceful aspirations of the Benue community. He called on those responsible for the violence to cease their actions, asserting that such attacks would not diminish the resilience of the local population.

Ochigbo urged the government to take swift and effective measures to secure vulnerable communities, apprehend those accountable for the violence, and offer assistance to grieving families.

“As your son and someone who seeks to serve as your governor, I promise that security will be my top priority. Every village, market, and home in Otukpo and across Benue must be safe,” he stated.

Should he be elected, Ochigbo vowed that his administration would focus on enhancing security while also addressing youth employment, supporting agriculture, and promoting overall development to tackle the underlying issues of violence.

He reassured residents of Otukpo to remain hopeful during this challenging time, affirming his solidarity with them. “We mourn with you. We stand with you. Together, we will build a Benue where no child is buried before their time,” he said.

Furthermore, Ochigbo offered prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives in the attacks and called for enduring peace throughout Otukpo and the wider Benue State.
