Benue youths foil kidnap attempt, rescue abducted businesswoman in Nasarawa

Benue Youths Rescues Woman from Kidnappers in Nasarawa State
Agatu, Benue State — On the night of May 5, 2026, a group of youths from the Agatu community successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Achepe village, located within the Akpanaja Council Ward of the Ekye Development Area in Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when gunmen, attempting to abduct a local businesswoman identified as Mrs. Inyakwu, invaded the riverine settlement opposite the Lower Basin area of Makurdi.
An eyewitness, Tanko Barnabas, reported that the victim’s cries for help alerted nearby residents. The youths quickly mobilized to confront the attackers. Despite the assailants firing shots, the community members managed to overpower them and rescue Mrs. Inyakwu.
Two of the suspects were apprehended at the scene, and firearms were recovered. Others reportedly fled into nearby wooded areas.
The prompt action of the youths, led by their community leader, has garnered praise from local residents, who lauded their courage and vigilance in safeguarding the community.
