Gunmen Attack Ngbra Zongo Community, Leaving 13 Dead
Ngbra Zongo, Plateau State — A violent attack on the Ngbra Zongo community in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area early Friday resulted in at least 13 fatalities, according to local sources.
Witnesses reported that the assault began around midnight, with armed attackers opening fire indiscriminately and assaulting residents with machetes and other weapons. Mr. Philip Alanga, a resident, described the assault as chaotic, with assailants moving from house to house and targeting innocent individuals.
“They came into the community around midnight and started shooting and hacking people to death,” Alanga stated in an interview from Jos. “They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people.”
Several residents sustained injuries of varying severity during the incident, while many others fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence. Alanga noted that numerous individuals remain in urgent need of medical assistance.
Mr. Danjuma Auta, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, condemned the attack as barbaric and tragic, urging for accountability and security in the region.
This incident adds to a troubling series of attacks in Plateau State, which has seen a rise in violence attributed to suspected banditry linked to Fulani militia. Local authorities have yet to respond publicly to the latest outbreak of violence.
