Gunmen Abduct Sister of Former Minister Adebayo Adelabu in Ibadan

Unidentified assailants have kidnapped Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, reports indicate. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, was reportedly seized while en route to drop her twin sons, Peter and Paul, at school around 7:30 a.m. Local sources confirmed that the gunmen also took the 12-year-old boys during the abduction.

This incident follows Adebayo Adelabu’s recent resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to pursue the governorship primary for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, where he was defeated by Senator Sharafadeen Alli.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the whereabouts of the kidnapped family members remain unknown. Efforts to obtain a comment from the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police, Olayinka Ayanlade, were unsuccessful.

Femi Awogboro, a media aide to Adebayo Adelabu, confirmed the incident, stating that the kidnapping has been reported to law enforcement.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Awogboro expressed that the family wishes to formally acknowledge the incident. He detailed that Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five siblings and has previously held positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. Following her retirement last year, she relocated to Ibadan in preparation to join her husband, who currently resides in the United States.
