Several Feared Dead in Attack by Suspected Herdsmen in Benue State
AGATU, Benue State — At least four individuals are reported dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen on the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area.
Sources indicate that the victims were returning from their farms when the assailants, who appear to have laid an ambush, opened fire on them.
While the exact number of casualties remains uncertain, four bodies have reportedly been recovered from the scene. Among the deceased have been identified Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from local authorities were unsuccessful. Edet Udeme, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, did not respond to attempts to reach him. Similarly, calls to Agatu Local Government Chairman Melvin Ejeh went unanswered prior to this report’s publication.
