Joint Task Force Operation Halts Terrorist Assault, Eliminates 24 Militants

Troops from the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) reported the successful neutralization of at least 24 terrorists during a coordinated operation in the Kukareta area on Thursday morning.

According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Task Force, the operation was initiated in response to a “determined terrorist attack” that began shortly after midnight and lasted until approximately 3 a.m. The troops executed a swift and organized counterattack, effectively containing the assault and forcing militants to retreat in disarray.

The engagement resulted in significant casualties for the attackers, with 24 militants confirmed killed. Troops also recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, which included 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three RPG tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition.

In addition to the fatalities inflicted on the terrorist side, two soldiers sustained injuries but have since been stabilized. An armored tank involved in the operation suffered damage, with all tires blown out.

The Task Force stated that ongoing exploitation of the battlefield has revealed blood trails and medical supplies, prompting further recovery efforts along the militants’ retreat routes.

This operation underscores the resilience and combat readiness of the OPHK troops in countering terrorist activities. Authorities indicated that operations would persist, applying sustained pressure to consolidate gains and defeat remaining terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area.
