Come home, clear your name —Laolu Akande to Alison-Madueke

Former Aide Urges Diezani Alison-Madueke to Return to Nigeria Following UK Acquittal
Laolu Akande, a former media aide to the presidency, has called for the return of Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, to Nigeria. His remarks came after a UK court acquitted Alison-Madueke of bribery charges.
In an interview with Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief” on Friday, Akande emphasized the need for Alison-Madueke to address outstanding legal issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“It’s positive news, but she should return home to clear these matters,” he said. “She needs to face the EFCC cases against her, which have resulted in a substantial portion of her properties being forfeited.”
Akande asserted that now is an opportune time for Alison-Madueke to defend herself in Nigeria, stating, “Let’s see where the pendulum goes.”
Since leaving office in 2015, Alison-Madueke has been the subject of multiple corruption investigations both domestically and internationally. The EFCC has obtained several court orders for the forfeiture of assets linked to her, and Nigerian authorities have consistently pursued her extradition.
