LAGOS — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully secured the conviction of two Chinese nationals, Zhang Hong Lin and Gao Pei Hai, for conspiracy and illegal mining of solid minerals. In the course of the trial, prosecution counsel H.U. Kofarnaisa presented the case’s details and submitted documentary evidence. Following this, Kofarnaisa urged the court to impose a conviction and sentence that reflected the seriousness of the offenses.
Justice Aluko subsequently found both defendants guilty on all counts, sentencing each to five years in prison for each charge. The court provided an option for a total fine of 50 million naira to cover all five counts.
