Three Suspects Remanded in Osun State for Alleged Sale of Government Mosquito Nets
The Osun State Police Command has announced that three individuals have been remanded in a correctional facility following their arraignment for allegedly diverting and selling government-owned mosquito nets intended for free distribution under a public health initiative.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, authorities revealed that the case emerged from an investigation into reports that mosquito nets were being sold instead of being distributed to designated beneficiaries.
The suspects have been identified as Rabbi Bennett, an employee of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) working in the Ife North Local Government Area in Ipetumodu; Opeyemi Ajibola, a commercial motorcycle operator; and Aminu Ibrahim.
The inquiry began after the police received information on June 9, 2026, regarding suspected illegal dealings involving government property intended for public use. According to police allegations, the trio sold six bundles containing 300 mosquito nets on June 8, 2026, despite the items being earmarked for free distribution under a government health program.
The investigation was reportedly sparked by a dispute between Bennett and Ajibola regarding the distribution of proceeds from the sale, which led law enforcement to uncover the purported scheme.
After their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody for questioning, during which they allegedly confessed to their involvement in the offense.
The police command confirmed that the case has been forwarded to a competent court, with the defendants now held in custody pending further judicial proceedings.
Reiterating its commitment to protect public assets, police stated, “The Command is dedicated to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that individuals responsible for public welfare programs are held accountable under the law.” The investigation has concluded, and the case is awaiting resolution in court.
