Curfew imposed in three Taraba communities over communal unrest
The chairman of the Sardauna Local Government Council in Taraba State, Mohammed J. Umar, imposed a 24-hour curfew in Mbamnga and two adjacent communities in response to recent communal unrest.
The curfew went into effect immediately and applies to the areas of Mbamnga, Mbara, and Geroji in the local government region. Umar announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing the need to restore peace and prevent further violence.
Umar stated that security forces have been dispatched to the affected areas to ensure law and order and to safeguard residents’ lives and property. He assured the public that the situation is being managed effectively.
The council chairman directed all security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly and granted them authority to arrest anyone violating the order. Additionally, he called upon traditional and community leaders to assist in promoting peace among residents and ensuring compliance with the curfew.
Residents are advised to remain indoors during the curfew and avoid actions that might incite further unrest. The council also urged the community to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement, warning that those found contributing to the disturbance of peace would face legal consequences.
Umar reaffirmed the council’s commitment to protecting the safety and property of residents and to fostering stability and unity within the region.
