Deputy speaker, 15 other Niger Assembly lawmakers fail to secure APC return tickets

Deputy Speaker and 15 Other Niger Assembly Lawmakers Lose APC Primaries

The Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Mrs. Affiniki Dauda, along with 15 other lawmakers, did not secure their return tickets in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries held recently.
Mrs. Dauda, the only female member of the House, represents the Gurara constituency and was defeated by a first-time candidate. This loss is significant, especially as she had recently seconded a motion to re-elect Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago unopposed for a second term.
In contrast, Alhaji Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, Speaker of the House, was returned unopposed from his Magama constituency.
The primaries revealed that all 27 candidates selected by the APC for the upcoming assembly elections are male, and notably, there are no Christian candidates on the party’s ticket.
Among those who successfully obtained APC tickets are Alhaji Abdulmalik Bala Yakubu (Katcha), Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman Gomna (Bosso), Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed (Edati), and Alhaji Murtala Adamu Badaru (Suleja), among others.
The results were announced by Alhaji Danlami Mohammed Abubakar, chairman of the committee, during a briefing at the party secretariat on Thursday evening.
