Don’t mistake Nigerians’ patience for acceptance of hardship — Northern Elders to Tinubu
The Northern States Christian Elders Forum has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against interpreting the patience of Nigerians as an endorsement of ongoing hardships.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Chairman Elder Sunday Oibe emphasized the need for the president to reconsider the recent increase in petrol prices. The forum argued that further hikes would exacerbate an already difficult situation for many Nigerians, amplifying the uncertainty faced by millions.
The elders urged President Tinubu to prioritize immediate challenges affecting citizens, such as rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity, and deteriorating infrastructure, during the remaining term of his administration.
“The patience of Nigerians should not be mistaken for acceptance of perpetual hardship,” the statement read.
Moreover, the forum encouraged the government to explore alternative and sustainable revenue sources rather than relying on repeated fuel price increases to finance its programs and obligations, suggesting that shifting the financial burden onto citizens is not a viable solution.
