Sowore Criticizes DSS Role in Nigerian Politics
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections, has asserted that the Department of State Services (DSS) should prioritize public service over private interests.
Sowore made these remarks Wednesday while speaking with reporters following court proceedings in Abuja.
Earlier that day, Justice Mohammed Garuba Umar of the Federal High Court denied Sowore’s request to introduce uncertified documents in his ongoing trial, where he faces allegations of making defamatory statements against President Bola Tinubu.
After the hearing, Sowore emphasized, “One thing was also established today in court. The DSS is employed by the Nigerian people. It is not the private security guard organization of anybody.”
He further noted that the DSS should not solely act in defense of the president. “It is our duty to remind those in power that our present is more significant than the future they wish to control,” he added. Sowore concluded by expressing a commitment to securing freedom for Nigerians both now and in the future.
