Kaduna Leaders Endorse Education Reforms at School Unveiling
KADUNA, Nigeria — Defense Minister General Christopher Musa (rtd) and Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani have expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Nigeria. Their comments came during the inauguration of the Kaduna Christian Academy, a faith-based institution designed for the local Christian community.
During the event, both leaders emphasized the importance of public cooperation with security agencies through education as a crucial strategy in combating banditry, terrorism, and other security threats facing the nation. The academy was established by friends of Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), who previously supported the creation of an Islamic school in Danbushiya for the Muslim community.
General Musa described the academy as a “strategic non-kinetic intervention” that transcends traditional definitions of national defense. He stated that true security is achieved not only through military might but also by addressing ignorance and despair. “This school is a weapon of mass instruction in the right hands,” he said.
He praised the DSS for its dual role in security and community development, highlighting that an educated populace is more resilient against extremism and social instability. Musa urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, drawing from his own background to illustrate the transformative potential of learning.
Governor Sani, represented by State Attorney General James Kanyip, reiterated the state’s commitment to expanding access to quality education. He underscored education as a critical element for personal and societal development. “Every classroom built creates opportunities for learning,” Kanyip stated, calling the commissioning of the academy a symbol of hope and transformation.
Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria for the Northern States and the FCT, commended the DSS for recognizing education as an effective approach to addressing insecurity and poverty. He emphasized that the school opening symbolizes broader opportunities for children’s growth and futures.
From the Muslim community, Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Prof. Suleiman Adam, praised the interfaith initiative, acknowledging the DSS’s effort to support education for both Christians and Muslims. Malam Musa Suleiman, speaking for the DSS DG’s friends, also noted that education is vital in tackling the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria.
In conclusion, the unveiling of the Kaduna Christian Academy marks a significant step toward fostering interfaith cooperation and enhancing educational opportunities in the region.
