Joint Task Force North West Engages Terrorists in Sokoto State
SOKOTO, Nigeria — Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, neutralized two terrorists and seized weapons and motorcycles during a confrontation in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North West, announced the development in a statement released on Friday. The operation was initiated based on credible intelligence received early on August 28, 2026, regarding terrorists transporting rustled cattle in the Maikujera area of Rabah.
Acting on this intelligence, the troops deployed to intercept the terrorists as they advanced towards the designated location. However, they encountered an ambush set by the assailants. In response, the troops engaged in a decisive firefight, employing superior firepower to overcome the ambush and eliminate two terrorists. The remaining militants fled into nearby bushes.
The operation resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the assailants. During the firefight, the rustled cattle dispersed into the surrounding area. Efforts are currently underway, in collaboration with local vigilantes, to locate and recover the livestock.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA remain committed to maintaining operational momentum against terrorist activities and criminal elements, aiming to protect lives and property within their area of operations.
