EFCC arraigns man over alleged N25.6m beans fraud in Maiduguri

Maiduguri Man Faces Court Over Alleged Fraud of N25.6 Million
The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought criminal charges against Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi in connection with an alleged fraud involving 400 bags of beans valued at N25.6 million.
Korimi appeared before Justice Aisha Kumaliya at the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri on April 16, 2026, facing two counts: criminal misappropriation and obtaining by false pretenses.
According to a statement from the EFCC, the defendant is accused of defrauding one Maina Hassan Madube of N25,647,000 through a deceptive business transaction. The charges detail that on or about July 2025, Korimi fraudulently acquired the beans under the pretense of supplying them to customers in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, with a promise to make payment within one week—a claim he allegedly knew to be false.
When the charges were read in court, Korimi pleaded not guilty.
In response, prosecution counsel S.O. Saka requested a trial date and urged the court to remand Korimi in a correctional facility during the proceedings. Justice Kumaliya adjourned the case until April 22, 2026, for a hearing on the bail application and directed that Korimi be held at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility.
The EFCC states that the case stems from Korimi’s failure to fulfill the agreement related to the beans transaction.
